With over 30 years in government contracting, Kathryn Freeland, M.B.A., CEO of Mackson, an A-TEK Company, leads the combined firms’ overall growth strategy. As an entrepreneur for 25 years, her results-driven business focus promotes a skilled, empowered workforce that is actively attuned to the needs of federal agencies. Consistent with her entrepreneurial spirit and prior to acquiring Mackson Consulting in 2019, Kathryn also acquired A-TEK, Inc. in 2010, and was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of RGII Technologies, Inc., an information technology company serving nine cabinet agencies.
With a strong foundation in government contracting, Kathryn blends a focus of excellence in service delivery with an employee centric leadership style. Her team fosters a supportive work culture where employees develop and apply the most in-demand expertise, producing exceptional results for customers and shareholders.
Kathryn is the recipient of the following awards: 2018 LeadersNest Inaugural FedFem Award; 2018 Enterprising Women Magazine – Enterprising Women of the Year; 2016 SmartCEO Brava Award; and was inducted into the Maryland Top 100 Women’s Circle of Excellence. In 2009, Kathryn authored and self-published “Navigating Your Way to Business Success: An Entrepreneur’s Journey”, a motivational account of her path to successful business ownership. She earned her M.B.A. from the University of Maryland, and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
In his role as Vice President and Account Manager – Health, Edward “Ted” Schmitt leads A-TEK’s and Mackson | an A-TEK Company’s health portfolios, which focuses on delivering services to federal Health and Human Services agencies. He leverages the domain expertise of our highly-skilled subject matter experts in achieving mission success for our clients. Ted is charged with continuing to execute programs that enable customers to meet their mission requirements with high levels of customer satisfaction and he is responsible for identifying growth opportunities which leverage the expertise, talents, and dedication of our employees.
Ted brings a wealth of deep domain experience, and advances A-TEK’s strategic commitment to expand our footprint in the growing federal health IT market. Ted also brings a unique combination of program leadership, DevOps expertise, and customer-service excellence to this role. Before joining A-TEK, Ted served as the Senior Vice President for Salient CRGT and Vice President for Information Innovators Inc. where he was responsible for the Agile Development Solutions group delivering digital services to the Food and Drug Administration and other federal agencies. He brings 23 years of customer-focused experience in Health Services, Defense Logistics, and Higher Education.
As a Sr. Technical Director, Mr. Knowlton has architected, developed and optimized networking and computer systems for a variety of federal clients, including but not limited to, HHS, FDA, VA, NCI, USGS, and DHS. As one of Mackson’s Sr. Architects he serves as a technical expert representative across teams, clients, and the information technology industry. He offers technical support across practice areas in offering definition, positioning and implementation of alternative technical solutions to meet client requirements more efficiently with optimum results. He has over 15 years of expertise in Oracle’s technology platforms and is considered an expert in the industry on Oracle best practices.
